Well folks,  I have resigned from Coldwell Banker United Realtors.  I will miss seeing the friends that I made while working there.  I will always have an interest in real estate and I will continue to renew my license every year for a while.  I don’t know if I will ever go back into the business.  Things will have to pick up quite a lot. Mean while I will enjoy being home, gardening, writing blogs, quilting, watercolor painting, and trying to catch up on my to do list. Bob requires more looking after now, and maybe between Dr. ‘s appointments we can travel a little from time to time.

At present I am quilting by hand a quilt top that I pieced while staying at Mother’s house when I was her care giver.  I moved Mother to my house after Bob had the first stroke in December of ’09.  I had lots of things to keep me busy so I put the quilt on the back burner.  About 6 weeks ago I started quilting it.

Mother passed away November 29 2010.  I guess the quilt top is a way to connect with Mother.  She truly enjoyed the top taking shape and was very proud of the log cabin design.  I feel like finishing it will be theraputic for me.  I have made only one quilt many years ago so I have had to relearn the craft.(not that I was very accomplished ) With all the information on the internet I have learned a lot more than I knew before.  If I ever get it finished I will take a photo and post it.  After that, I know I will start another project .

Friday night I had an opportunity to be a guest of an Irish Band at a small Irish pub in Pineville, N.C.   The band, Clann Darragh, is made up of several Irish gentlemen, some people not from Ireland and my grandson, Colin, who plays the Irish flute and the penny whistle.  His mother is of Irish decent hence the first name.

The band played many Irish tunes and some of the gentlemen and a lady sang some of the time. It was delightfully entertaining for me.  I loved to hear the Irishmen sing with their strong Irish brogue.   And, of course, I was very proud of my grandson’s performance.   He did an outstanding solo, a fast reel, on the penny whistle that got a big round of cheers and applause.  It was wonderful to see him smile! I really had a great time!

While there, I had the pleasure of talking to one of the band member who had moved here from Brookland N.Y.  many years ago.  He reared his family in the Northern part of Iredell county. He said it is a was wonderful place for bringing up his children.  Each one had gotten a great education and each have impressive jobs.  He was very proud of them all.

If you know anyone who may be interested in moving to an area with a slower paced way of life maybe they would be interested in looking at Iredell County, in North Carolina.  The county taxes are about .45 on the hundred.  The Northern part is more rural but if a  faster pace is desired, Mooresville, in the Southern part of the county is just 20 minutes North of Charlotte, NC.

We also have Lake Norman, with its’ beautiful shoreline, that has many nice up scale homes available.   Mooresville is only one of the communities that borders Lake Norman.

If I can answer any questions about this area please email me at nancy.shoemaker@cbunited.com or you may call me at 704 663 9085.

Hi Folks, For the past couple of weeks we have been experiencing some delightful weather here in Troutman and and Lake Norman,  North Carolina!  Last week we had some 70 degree days  here in the middle of February.  Trees are blooming, Buttercups are blooming and days are warm and sunny.   I know it’s is too early for spring but I’m getting spring fever now.  There will probably be a cold snap and things will suffer frost bite.  Maybe an inch or two of snow yet to come. We do get excited about a few flakes of snow here.  I love watching it fall.  At my house, the two times we have had snow flurries this winter there was no accumulation.  In the past we’ve had some snow as late as March.  There is very little snow and when it does snow it’s gone in a day or two.  Hardly any snow shoveling to do.

If you live in an area with lots of snow you might enjoy living in our area where we still have four seasons but the winters are very mild.  This area has many new construction homes available in all price ranges.  If you would like information about any of the homes on the market here, email me or call me I would be happy to help you.
